VH1 Debuting A “Movie That Rocks” About Girl Group, TLC

When I first watched TLC’s “Behind The Music”, the legendary girl group’s story became an instant classic: From learning about the group’s unprecedented success to their financial woes (at the height of their success) to Lefteye burning down her boyfriend’s house & her untimely death. Not to mention, T-Boz’s struggle with sickle-cell anemia, which has resulted in not only hospitalization but also a brain tumor.

T-Boz and Chili will act as consultants and executive producers of the film, ensuring a quality product (& hopefully helping T-Boz cope with her recent bankruptcy).

In addition to having a great true story to work with, the network hopes to hire Kate Lanier, famous for writing the script to Tina Turner’s biopic, ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’, to pen the script.

“The reality of this brings me to tears because I am seeing one of my dreams come to life,” Chili told VH1 in a press release. “I always felt our story had to be told. What makes it even more amazing is having Kate Lanier on board. I remember watching ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ with Lisa, and I knew then whoever wrote that story had to write ours.”

“I’m just overjoyed. Kate Lanier is amazing,” T-Boz quipped. “I’m honored to work with her I love her art. Well here we go on another TLC ride and I can’t wait.”

I have a feeling their lives will provide just enough drama to make for an epic movie.

T-Boz, of TLC, Forced To File For Bankruptcy, Owes Over $700K

One would assume that the star of one of the biggest girl groups of all time would be financially set for life. Unfortunately that’s not so, as T-Boz, of TLC, has filed for bankruptcy.

According to documents filed last month in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, T-Boz (real name Tionne Watkins) found herself owing creditors $768,642.99, mostly from mortgages on her $1.2 million house.

The documents don’t paint a picture of exorbitant spending, as she takes in $11,700/month in income, with monthly expenses totaling $8,821.

TLC had ten top ten singles, four number one singles, four multi-platinum albums, and four Grammy Awards, but according to the docs, T-Boz only pulls in $1,200/month in royalties. Ouch!

T-Boz might have dodged the bankruptcy bullet if she’d been able to collect the child support she claims she’s owed (from rapper Mack 10), which totals $250,000.

I do hope she’s able to get everything together. Perhaps she should take the reality television route, like Chili?
