Last night, a myriad of prominent black celebrities gathered in Washington, D.C. to attend the 2012 BET Honors celebration.
Hosted by Gabrielle Union, the BET Honors, which recognize African-Americans of excellence in the categories of musical arts, media, literary arts, service, education and entertainment, honored singer Stevie Wonder, director Spike Lee, poet Maya Angelou, the Tuskegee Airmen, track and field coach Beverly Kearney and pop diva Mariah Carey.
Our First Lady, Michelle Obama presented an award in a beautiful red gown.
Celebrities in attendance included Kelly Rowland (who paid tribute to Mariah Carey), Michelle Williams, Aretha Franklin, Jill Scott, Willow Smith & Nick Cannon, among many others.

Though many celebrities brag about having money, very few share their wealth to those in need.
DoSomething.org has composed a list of the top 20 celebrities that have given back to the community with charitable organizations & handsome donations.
Atop the list is Lady Gaga for her anti-bullying efforts, like her Born This Way Foundation.
Several A-list couples have also made the list, including Will Smith & Jada Pinkett-Smith, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, as well as (former couple) Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore.
Though he’s in a highly publicized relationship with Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon makes the list solo for his efforts in 2011, as he produced and hosted Nickelodeon’s HALO Awards, a show dedicated to featuring kids that help others. Nick also provided his host talents at a 3-day event with Toys for Tots, plus he was the face of Feeding America’s campaign Stomp Out Hunger.
Dwight Howard is the only athlete to appear on this list (which was quite shocking to me). In addition to starting his self-named foundation, the NBA star is President of the Orlando-based D12 foundation. As part of his presidential duties, he’s added a teen recreation room at a local hospital, met with special olympic athletes, and collected food for the hunger organization Blessings in a Backpack.

20. Taylor Swift
18. Miley Cyrus
17. Daniel Radcliffe (star of ‘Harry Potter’ films)
