Last night the world was introduced to a brand new crop of Basketball Wives in the Los Angeles edition. In just an hour, viewers were able to decipher the real from the fake, the ghetto from the polished & the good, bad & ugly amongst cast members.
We first were able to get acquainted with possibly the most talked about star of the show, video vixen/model, Draya Michele, who has been linked to numerous atheletes & entertainers alike. Ringleader of the bunch, Gloria Govan, becomes associates with Draya after the two share an acting class assignment. Shortly afterward, Gloria gets the lowdown on Draya’s history:
All of the ladies are then given a chance to get acquainted at a dinner meeting. In a rather confusing scene (was this supposed to be them meeting up as friends or as new members of the Basketball Wives cast? It wasn’t staged well), everyone is rubbed the wrong way by LA native Malaysia, who appears to put on airs regarding her lifestyle:
The next cast member the show teaches us to love-to-hate is Tonya, who (to me) seems to be the most pretentious woman on the show for no reason at all. Between her insensitivity toward Jackie’s personal life & her adamant preference in the finest of champagnes, I was completely turned off:
In the show’s finale, the women decide to, again, meet up for lunch (or brunch, who knows?) to get better acquainted. However, things go awry once again:
Things go from verbal to physical when Malaysia makes a comment that she’s never slept with anyone’s husband (referring to the affair that Laura Govan allegedly had while Shaq was still married to Shaunie) & all hell breaks loose:
Overall, the first episode of the season was indeed exciting, however the women of the original Basketball Wives series have set the bar for drama. These new ladies have to bring it on!
