NBA Wife & Singer Tamia: ‘Basketball Wives’ Paints A Really Bad Picture
Though I love watching the show (purely for entertainment), I also love when real-life basketball wives speak out about “Basketball Wives” — mainly how the show contradicts the lives of women who are actually married to NBA players.
Tamia, R&B singer & wife of Phoenix Suns player, Grant Hill, recently opened up to The Huffington Post about her dislike of the hit VH1 reality series, now in it’s fourth season.
“I think the perception is definitely not a reality,” said Tamia.
“I think that it’s definitely very misleading in terms of what our lives are about,” she told The Huffington Post.
Pointing out what many critics before her have, Tamia noted that most of the women featured in the franchise aren’t actually married—to basketball players or anyone else.
“I think, to be fair, a lot of those women [on the show] aren’t wives,” said Tamia, who has met more than a few NBA wives since she and Grant began dating 15 years ago.
“I do have a lot of friends who are married to athletes, and a lot of these women are involved in charities, doing all kinds of things behind the scenes and are supportive wives, and—believe it or not—have supportive husbands who are really great guys.”
Although the VH1 series focuses on women, Eric Williams, the estranged husband of Jennifer Williams, was featured on three seasons of the show. During that time, he admitted infidelity, was verbally abusive toward his wife and violently tossed a drink in her face.
“I think not only for the women, but I think it just paints a really bad picture about the man, as well,” she said.
Just a wild guess, but I doubt Tamia tunes in to the show on Monday nights…
